SEVENTEEN’s first official unit, Jeonghan X Joshua, is winning over international press with their debut mini album ‘DREAMSCAPE.’
According to a report by StarNews, U.S. entertainment outlet Variety ran a feature on October 19 (local time) around the duo “finding their own sound” on the album. The piece noted that while the pair released the duet ‘Falling For U’ back in 2018, this is their first full unit album made entirely their own, and shared behind-the-scenes stories from the recording sessions.
Per the report, three or four tracks were in the running for the title slot before ‘12 O’Clock’ — a song sitting between house and band sounds — was chosen. The members told the outlet that exploring various genres and broadening their musical spectrum made the album meaningful.
Vogue Singapore defined ‘DREAMSCAPE’ as a “fantastic world of sound realized by Jeonghan X Joshua,” praising the “sophisticated sound, offbeat rhythms and intensely captivating vocals” that truly shine on ‘12 O’Clock.’ ELLE Singapore called the unit a showcase for the duo’s musical talent and chemistry, noting the album’s fresh, dreamy mood compared with other unit projects.
Bandwagon Asia highlighted the record’s genre-hopping, saying the two “move freely across house, rock and R&B with deeper voices than ever.”
The numbers back the hype: ‘DREAMSCAPE’ sold more than 650,000 copies on its release day and held No. 1 on Hanteo Chart’s daily chart (dated October 20) for two straight days, while also debuting at No. 6 on the Worldwide iTunes Album chart.
With the international rollout still fresh, more chart updates are expected in the coming days.
