Two weekend dramas opened their premieres with tributes to the same person this week — stunt actress Kim Hyun-yi, whose death in an August traffic accident was only belatedly made known.
The October 9 premiere of SBS’s “Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia” closed with a dedication reading “In memory of our dear colleague, the late Kim Hyun-yi, who ran with us,” alongside footage of her, according to SPOTV News. The message was signed by all of the “Doctor X” staff.
The following night, the October 10 premiere of tvN’s “100 Days of Lies” ended with its own message: “We will remember and never forget the late action actress Kim Hyun-yi.” Back-to-back tributes from two different broadcasters drew public attention to the late performer.
Kim was a stunt and action actress who worked on both dramas. Her credits include the films “Dark Nuns” and “Victory,” as well as the drama “The Penthouse.” She died in a traffic accident in August, with the news only surfacing after the tributes aired.
No further details about the accident have been reported. The two dedications stand as a rare moment of rival networks honoring the same behind-the-scenes colleague on consecutive nights.
