Yook, the mother of trot star Jang Yoon-jeong, will stand trial in the appeals court on November 19 after filing an appeal against her first-trial sentence over investment fraud charges.
According to Star News, which exclusively confirmed the schedule, the Seoul Eastern District Court’s Criminal Division 1-2 (Appeals) will hold the first appeals hearing on November 19. Yook is currently in custody, having been detained and indicted on fraud charges.
Yook was accused of invoking the name of her daughter — from whom she was estranged over past money disputes — to solicit investments from an acquaintance between September 2024 and August 2025, defrauding the victim of 31 million won across three transactions. She has a prior record: in 2018 she was detained for failing to repay over 400 million won borrowed from another acquaintance.
Her side admitted all charges, stating she “deeply reflects on her wrongdoings” and pleaded for leniency, saying the motive was living expenses and credit card bills. Prosecutors demanded 1 year and 6 months in August, noting her prior prison sentence for similar fraud, the unrecovered damages, and her lack of cooperation with the investigation.
At the September first-trial sentencing, the court handed down 10 months in prison, ruling that “all charges are found guilty” and that the crime was “poor in nature and not light,” noting no recovery of damages and her past sentences. Yook wept in her final statement, apologizing to the victims and their families.
