Broadcaster Yoo Byung-jae is teaming up with five idol trainees whose debuts fell through to launch ‘Die Idol’ season 2, a new idol development documentary.

Sports Donga reported on October 17 that Yoo Byung-jae’s creative studio Black Paper is co-producing the show with Grid Entertainment. The agency announced the season on October 16 through a teaser video on its official YouTube channel, with a November premiere planned.

The five trainees - Matthew, Lucas, Samuel, Chai Jinxin, and Oh Jun-hee - appeared in season 1 but saw their debuts canceled after failing to meet the standards of the public and the agency at the final monthly evaluation. After considering their own paths, they returned to the practice room and are now challenging a formal debut again through season 2.

The new season will follow the trainees as they meet audiences directly on street stages at home and abroad. On the day the teaser was released, the five held ‘Street Stage in Seoul’ near Banpo Bridge’s Moonlight Rainbow Fountain, performing four songs live - including the self-composed track ‘WYA’ - before an audience of around 1,000. Stages in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Bangkok are planned next.

The production team said the series captures the trainees, reunited after season 1’s failure, becoming “a real team,” adding that their transformation will be shown “through the real-stage process of meeting the public on the street.”

‘Die Idol’ season 2 will run for eight episodes, releasing in November on the official YouTube channel and Mnet Plus.
