Yoo Yeon Seok has revealed why he signed on for MBC’s new Friday-Saturday psychological thriller “Liar,” where he plays Min Joon Ho, a man whose true face no one can pin down.
According to Sports Dong-A’s report on the interview, released on October 12, the actor said he was drawn to a story that follows “what makes us trust or doubt someone when different accounts of one event collide.” He added that he was impressed the drama does not stop at solving the truth, but shows how a person’s words and image build trust.
Min Joon Ho is a capable doctor and a loving father whom everyone trusts — yet he rarely reveals his inner feelings. “No matter the situation, his emotions and intentions are hard to read,” Yoo said, adding that the ambiguity of what the character is thinking and which side of him is real was the biggest appeal.
The drama centers on two people who give completely opposite accounts of the same memory and clash as they search for the truth. “Liar” is the Korean title of the MBC thriller previously reported as “The Perfect Lie,” which drops its first episode on October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
The role marks Yoo Yeon Seok’s return to the psychological thriller genre after MBC’s 2024 series “When the Phone Rings.” How he plays the shifting line between suspicion and trust around Min Joon Ho is the thing to watch.
