Defconn Fumes as 'Detectives' Trade Secrets' Unmasks Tenant Who Scammed 70s Landlady Out of 300 Million Won cover

Defconn is furious after Channel A’s ‘Detectives’ Trade Secrets’ (탐정들의 영업비밀) uncovered the full extent of a tenant’s scam that drained more than 300 million won from a landlady in her 70s.

According to MHN Sports, the October 19 episode follows the married detective duo as they track down the tenant behind a case first raised last week, when the victim’s son filed a desperate request saying his mother appeared to be defrauded.

The scam unfolded over roughly two years. The tenant moved in, claimed a leg injury, and coaxed the landlady into handing over part of her deposit for hospital bills. He then kept demanding money with a string of excuses — that he needed to clear personal rehabilitation to qualify for a company employee loan, or that 300 million won sat frozen in his bank account. When she could no longer lend, he allegedly pushed her toward private lenders and sent threatening texts. Even as the detectives investigated, the damage continued: the tenant took out a 5-million-won micro-loan on the victim’s phone and skimmed 2.3 million won as “advance interest.”

Confronted, the tenant admitted he had already quit his job when he lied about the employee loan, spent the money on medicine and food, and fabricated the bank balance screenshots and court-staff call recordings used to keep the victim reassured.

Watching the confession, Defconn erupted: “Where on earth did all that money go?” He added, “This could destroy a family. You can’t do this as a human being.” Kim Poong called the tenant “a beast in human skin.”

The full investigation airs Monday at 10 PM on Channel A.
