Director Jang Hang-jun Admits Writing Comedy Is 'Hard' in Playful Banter with Song Eun-i on VIVO TV cover

Film director Jang Hang-jun has confessed that comedy is far harder to write than people might think, admitting he is in no rush to write another romantic comedy.

The admission came on an episode of the online channel VIVO TV uploaded on October 15, titled “First Look at Master Jang Hang-jun’s Next Project Prep Site,” according to a TV Report article published the following day.

The video shows behind-the-scenes footage of the “Master Jang Hang-jun” (거장항준) shoot, which features Jang alongside comedian Song Eun-i and Kim Poong. Song introduced Jang’s filmography in a hallway display, from his debut feature Turn On the Lighters (라이터를 켜라) to his second film Spring Breeze (불어라 봄바람), noting the latter “didn’t do as well as ‘Lighters’ but still received much love.”

Standing in front of the Forgotten (기억의 밤) poster, Jang recalled screaming in the theater while watching the film, much to the staff’s embarrassment. Asked to explain his basketball drama Rebound (리바운드), he fell into a long silence before describing it as a story about a rookie coach joining a basketball team — a project he agreed with Song is his “aching finger,” a regret that still stings.

When Song asked, “Are you thinking of writing a romantic comedy again?” Jang admitted, “Actually, comedy is hard.” Song shot back, “Isn’t romance hard too?” as the pair showed off their close-friend chemistry. When Jang joked, “Should I not have done it?” Song asked about the “soft heart” he once shared with writer Kim Eun-hee, to which he laughed, “Now it’s very hard.”

Jang and Song are currently meeting viewers through the SBS variety program “Master Jang Hang-jun” (거장항준).
