Jeon Hyun-moo Named MC of MBC's New 'the Point of Omniscient Obsession' Despite Staged Travel Controversy cover

Jeon Hyun-moo will MC MBC’s new variety show “The Point of Omniscient Obsession” (“Jeonchakshi”), set to premiere in early November.

According to TV Report’s exclusive coverage on October 20, the MC lineup has been finalized as Jeon Hyun-moo, comedian Kim Won-hoon, chef Yoon Nam-no, and editor Kim Min-kyung.

The new show is a spin-off of MBC’s long-running program “The Manager” (“Jeonchamshi”), built around people who are deeply obsessed with something. Industry watchers are asking whether it can follow in the footsteps of the original hit.

The casting is notable given the timing: Jeon recently faced a “staged broadcast” controversy after his “I Live Alone” Kazakhstan Almaty episode was found to have involved pre-planned scenarios and scripts, despite being presented as an impromptu trip. The controversy does not appear to have slowed his schedule.

The announcer-turned-veteran MC, active since 2004 and now in his 24th year on air, is currently a fixed cast member on nine programs including “I Live Alone,” “The Manager,” and “Jeon Hyun-moo’s Plan.”

Kim Won-hoon debuted as a KBS comedian and runs the sketch comedy channel “Shortbox” with over 4.04 million subscribers. Yoon Nam-no rose to fame on Netflix’s “Culinary Class Wars,” where he reached the final 20, and now appears on “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator since 2014.” Kim Min-kyung, a six-year editor on Minumsa’s foreign literature team, will make her first appearance as a terrestrial variety MC.

No official statement from MBC or Jeon Hyun-moo’s agency was available at press time.
