Kim Yong Hwa Confirms 'Along With The Gods: Life and Death' for Late 2027 Shoot cover

The “Along With the Gods” franchise is officially back. Dexter Studios announced on October 20 that director Kim Yong Hwa has locked in “Along With the Gods: Life and Death” as his next project, targeting a second-half 2027 shoot.

According to MyDaily, the studio said preparations are now in full swing, ending years of uncertainty since Kim first mentioned in interviews that he was developing third and fourth installments of the fantasy saga.

The new film is set in Gucheon, a realm where souls unable to release their earthly attachments linger. It follows Sol-i, a protagonist suspended between life and death, crossing nine worlds in search of a song they never got to sing. The cast lineup has not been revealed.

Anticipation is building over whether original stars Ha Jung Woo and Ju Ji Hoon will reunite. MyDaily reports expectations are gathering for the two to team up again, though nothing is confirmed. No direct quote from the studio or director was published.

The stakes are high: “The Two Worlds” (2017) drew 14.41 million moviegoers and “The Last 49 Days” drew 12.27 million, the first Korean series with two consecutive 10-million-admission hits. Based on Joo Ho-min’s webtoon, it swept director, technical and visual effects honors at Korea’s major film awards, and Dexter Studios will invest again.

With a 2027 shoot target, the wait will be long, but for fans of Korea’s biggest fantasy franchise, the official green light is the news they have waited nearly a decade to hear.
