Nana has broken her silence on the malicious comments that followed her public confirmation of her relationship with former BIGBANG member T.O.P, asking her critics what wrong she had committed.
According to Star News, Nana shared a lengthy statement on her social media on November 5, a month after she and T.O.P confirmed they were dating on October 2. She said she wrote the post for people who call themselves fans while deliberately writing malicious posts, ignoring her choices and her freedom.
Nana wrote that for 17 years she has worked sincerely at every moment and given her best, adding that although she is human and has at times felt shaken and unstable, she has never treated the work given to her lightly or failed to take responsibility for it.
βI ask you to calmly look back at what you want and expect from a celebrity, from me as a person, Nana,β she wrote. βI tried to understand all of your words and actions, but I cannot understand them. What great wrong did I commit? Did I cause you any harm? Did I cause a moral controversy?β
βTo be clear, the relationship, and the process of acknowledging it, are my private life and my life,β she continued. βI do not think it is something I should apologize for.β She added that the people she does feel sorry toward are her genuine fans, who have had to hear, see and feel criticism they did not need to endure because of her.
She asked critics not to hurt the fans who love and respect her as a person beyond the frame of a celebrity, and not to cause them further harm, offering a sincere apology to the fans who have silently endured.
Nana and T.O.P confirmed their relationship on October 2, just 30 minutes after the dating report broke. The two met while filming the music video for T.O.Pβs solo song and became a couple in June, according to their agencies. Nana later appeared in promotional content for his solo full-length album, released in April. Her first social media update after the confirmation came on October 11, when she shared photos from a clothing brand photoshoot.
The November 5 statement marks her first direct public remarks on the backlash since the relationship was confirmed, and it drew swift attention as fans and onlookers weighed in on her message.
